The Chinese government invited President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to visit China, and he accepted, Malacanang announced on Friday.

Marcos accepted the invitation during a recent meeting with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to press secretary Beatrix Rose “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles.

According to Cruz-Angeles, a date has not yet been arranged, despite the invitation.

In a tweet, Marcos said that during their meeting with Wang on Wednesday at Malacaan Palace, they covered a wide range of topics, including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and bilateral ties.

Under his leadership, according to Marcos, there was a resolve to uphold the “solid bond” between the two nations.

He omitted, however, to say whether or not the South China Sea (SCS) problem came up during the discussion.

According to Cruz-Angeles, the President informed Wang of his desire to “take to a higher level” the bilateral ties between the Philippines and China.
