To reduce travel time from the province of Iloilo and draw more travelers and commercial investors, the province of Antique needs a railway.

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao stated in an interview on Tuesday, “I intend to submit a proposal to the Western Visayas Regional Development Council for Antique to be included in the Panay Railway System project because the province is also a part of Panay island.”

After President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said during his first State of the Nation Address that the revival of the Panay Railway System would be one of his administration’s goals, Cadiao voiced great hopes that the province would be included in the plan.

According to her, either Libertad town in the north or Anini-y in the southern section of Antique might serve as the starting point for the railway’s construction.

Libertad is close to the well-known tourist spots in the nation, Boracay Island in Aklan and Palawan.

It is proposed to extend the Panay Railway from Iloilo to the provinces of Capiz and Aklan.

The province of Aklan borders the provinces of Iloilo in the south and Antique in the north.

If the Panay Railway is extended to Antique, “an engineering study will be conducted to determine the cost,” Cadiao stated.

As the province’s economy is already improving, the governor supported the President’s declaration that there will be no more lockdowns caused by the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19).

“The lockdown was truly devastating and caused the province’s economy to completely collapse,” she claimed.

The provincial administration, according to Cadiao, is still pushing for a widespread Covid-19 vaccine.
