In September, DOLE and DOT plan to hold employment fairs for the hospitality industry.
Next month, two-day job fairs are planned around the nation by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Tourism (DOT).
According to Wednesday’s statement from Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, the partnership will increase employment in the hotel sector.
According to a statement he released, “It will be a series of employment fairs to be hosted in various cities and provinces with an initial focus in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao.”
For the “Trabaho Turismo Asenso” employment fairs, which will be held from September 22 to 24, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be published to formally establish the relationship between the two organizations.
The number of positions has not yet been disclosed.
According to the DOT’s results, which were provided by tourism stakeholders led by hotel businesses, Laguesma observed that there is a staffing shortage in the hotel industry.
“The initiative we’re about to launch seeks to support the government’s economic recovery effort by giving job searchers a platform to apply for openings in a variety of tourism sectors and related services. We can bridge industry gaps by assisting employers in finding the finest individuals for open positions through job fairs, he said.
He continued by saying that they are already working with the Philippine Hotel Owners Association to determine the precise positions needed and the number of openings in the industry.
The DOLE reported that since the country’s reopening in February of this year, it has seen a total of 1.1 million international visitors.
The number was higher than the total number of foreign arrivals in 2021, which was just 163,879 for the entire year.
