PH and UAE commemorate 48 years of diplomatic ties.
48 years of diplomatic ties between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates were celebrated, with the latter hoping for additional chances to strengthen the partnership, notably on pandemic recovery.
UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi said in a statement on Thursday that Abu Dhabi is willing to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries in “all spheres.”
“The Republic of the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates established diplomatic ties 48 years ago this month. As our two nations’ political cooperation has grown stronger and commerce and investment have increased greatly in recent years, bilateral ties have achieved new highs at a variety of levels in less than five decades, “added he.
The envoy thinks that the issues brought on by the pandemic and the growing food insecurity around the globe provide the two nations with chances to expand their relations.
When the epidemic first started, the UAE was one of the nations that sent aid to the Philippines, giving 100,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, as well as 7.3 metric tons of PPE gear and medical supplies.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on agricultural cooperation was also inked this year between the UAE and the Philippines, elevating their cooperation in solving the global food insecurity crisis.
The MOU is anticipated to establish guidelines for participation in, among other things, irrigation and water resources, biotechnology, post-harvest, agricultural research and development, agri-innovation, protected agriculture technologies, and soil science and management.
Additionally recently, the two countries announced the beginning of formal negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and signed the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA) (CEPA).
According to Alzaabi, “this agreement will support commerce and investment, lower trade obstacles, and increase employment possibilities in both nations.”
“The two nations are now eager to expand their commerce, which amounted to USD 806 million in 2021. The Philippines and the UAE’s collaboration has a bright future ahead of them, with both sides enjoying wealth and opportunities “Added he.
