After three more senators catch Covid-19, the Senate is in complete lockdown.

Three more senators boosted the total number of members who have contracted Covid-19 to seven, prompting the Pasay City location of the Senate of the Philippines to declare a complete lockdown on Friday.

The secretariat’s office had been given the go-ahead to perform a thorough cleaning and disinfection by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

“Due to this, our Senate building will be completely locked down, and all Senate staff will work from home on Monday instead of reporting to the Senate (August 22). The Senate will reconvene on Tuesday, “Added Zubiri in a statement.

On August 3, Senator Imee Marcos and Senator Cynthia Villar both tested positive. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano was the first.

Sens. Joel Villanueva, who made his findings public on Thursday, JV Ejercito, Nancy Binay, and Sen. Grace Poe all tested positive on Wednesday.

Following the Committee on Basic Education’s hearing on the state of education, particularly in light of the two years of online classes mandated by the Covid-19 epidemic, disinfection will begin.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, the chair of the committee, Robinhood Padilla, and other visitors showed up in person for the session.

Please keep my Senate colleagues and me in your prayers as we work to fully heal, as my family and I ask. “Pray is always our first line of defense,” Binay stressed in a statement that she has been adhering to all safety precautions to prevent the virus.

Through a videoconference, Binay attended the Education Committee hearing.

According to Zubiri, after being exposed to the virus, additional senators, personnel, and Secretariat members are also being held in isolation.

“Keep everyone safe and healthy.” Together, we will combat this virus and keep providing government services as effectively as we can, “added he.
