Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is anticipated to visit Manila this year: DFA

Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, is scheduled to travel to the Philippines before the year 2022 is out, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Friday.

Although it is not yet known if the trip will be a state visit, Assistant Secretary for Foreign Affairs Alfonso Ver said arrangements are still being made.

“Taking a swing via Asia was a decision made by the MBS. He was looking East, and at fresh drivers in nations in Asia, something the foreign minister also emphasized yesterday. Additionally, a personal desire to travel to the Philippines exists, “At a news conference, he told reporters.

“We still need to decide on a date, but just to give you a sense of the visit, King Salman, his father, traveled to Bali, Indonesia, in 2017 on six planes and a C-130, and I believe 100 princes joined him. So, Bali must be shut down, “said he.

According to Ver, Manila would be a stop on Prince Mohammed’s extensive Asian tour, which may also take him to Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, and Brunei.

The two nations are currently “hurrying” negotiations to prepare potential agreements that might be inked when the crown prince arrives.

“We want to move quickly and complete everything… Consequently, we are working on the dates, the agenda, and the deliverables, “explained Ver. “Rest confident that we have been making so many preparations that if it goes through in November, we’ll be prepared to welcome him here,”

Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, paid a visit to Manila on Thursday, and Ver said part of their discussion was “to set the beginning plans” for Prince Mohammed’s travel.

At least 30 agreements are still pending between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia, but the DFA is particularly interested in double taxation and investment promotion agreements.

Ver hoped that the matter would finally concern the arrival of investors. But he said the trip would be a “great gift” to the Philippines.

Ver claimed that Saudi Arabia was keen on fostering more vital economic collaboration with the Philippines based on Foreign Minister Faisal’s recent trip to Manila.

“They want to know where they can invest their money, not listen to a PowerPoint presentation. They want to know where they can contribute their knowledge and where we can collaborate, “added he.

The problem is that they require projects, he continued. “We can give all those seminars on how to avoid double taxation or generate the most significant profit.
