PBBM SG trip was “unannounced” for security concerns: Bersamin
According to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. skipped making plans for his unexpected travel to Singapore on Sunday for “security concerns.”
In response to criticism that the President’s travel was not disclosed to the media, who would typically cover him, Bersamin made this reply.
People may be anticipating him in Singapore, according to “Baka Mamaya Abangan Siya.” You cannot publish numerous things in advance, alam mo. I cannot reveal my destination, not even as a junior official, he said to reporters in an interview.
Despite acknowledging that he was unaware of the trip’s funding, Bersamin claimed it was “irrelevant” because it involved seeing people who were important to the nation’s business operations.
While he was abroad, he was still carrying out his duties as president, even though it wasn’t an official state visit, so he added that you don’t need to be too picky about where the money came from.
Marcos’ trip might even have been entirely sponsored, he added.
‘Yun e, baka libre pa. Ibig sabihin (I believe it was even free. This indicates that although he went there, I don’t believe he bothered anyone. But he must have been invited since his presence there might have given that occasion more significance, suspense, or both, Bersamin said.
Alhamdulillah, our President is a matinee idol (You know, our President is more like a matinee idol now). His participation in such a gathering would have been welcomed and possibly drawn a larger audience. It’s not immodest, and it’s not morally wrong,” he continued.
In “Private Time”
Marcos has acknowledged going to Singapore to see the Formula One Grand Prix and meet with investors.
On his engagement in Singapore, he indicated he would provide “further specifics” “at a later time.”
Marcos and his family are entitled to “private time” in Singapore, insisted Bersamin.
“The President and the first family are held in such high respect…
According to the Administrative Code, the state is concerned for the first family’s welfare. Therefore, if the President is allowed to have private time, let’s suppose that it is his private time because he went there on purpose. If so, that is his primary reason for being there (to watch, that was his primary reason). But he may also go there for other equally essential reasons,” he remarked.
“You have a right to your private space, times, etc. He continued if you have to do something, you shouldn’t let other people’s opinions influence you.
No matter why Marcos was traveling to Singapore, according to Bersamin, he was “doing something” for Filipinos.
He claimed that in addition to Marcos, other international dignitaries who attended the event were Singapore’s foreign affairs and labor ministers, Vivian Balakrishnan and Tan See Leng.
Marcos is making his second trip as president. First, on September 6 and 7, he paid a state visit to the city-state and returned with investment commitments totaling USD6.54 billion (PHP374.57).
