Int’l Telecommunications Union Council seat awarded to PH.
The Philippines has been approved to serve on the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Council once more, solidifying the nation’s participation in creating the global digital future.
Ivan John Uy, secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), announced on Tuesday that the Philippines had been re-elected to represent the 48 ITU members on the council from 2023 to 2026.
193 people make up the ITU.
By the Bucharest Declaration, “as a nation, we are keen to take an active part in constructing a brighter digital future for all,” Uy stated.
The DICT will be in charge of the nation’s participation in talks and decisions “that will considerably affect the future of the world,” he claimed, thanks to its membership on the ITU Council.
“To accomplish our objectives, we will require the complete cooperation and support of Congress and all executive branch departments. He stated that we are grateful to everyone who contributed to reaching this milestone.
He declared that to create a “digitally-empowered Philippines,” the DICT will collaborate with the public and commercial sectors.
Along with Australia, Bahrain, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, the nation is one of 13 states in Asia, and Australia chose to serve in the council.
Jocelle E. Batapa-Sigue, DICT Undersecretary, assisted in the Philippines’ successful reelection campaign and will serve as its representative until the plenipotentiary meeting concludes on October 14.
