Following her first 100 days in office, Vice President Sara Duterte announced on Sunday that Kalusugan food trucks would soon be introduced in more locations to aid children in recovering from malnutrition.

In a 14-minute recorded video message, she stated, “In the coming days, the OVP (Office of the Vice President) Kalusugan food trucks will be on the road addressing hunger among school children, as well as children afflicted by natural and human-induced tragedies around the country.”

The Vice President mentioned the four months that the rollout would last.

She said that the cycle in which a child’s nutrition is appropriately addressed would be completed by the time the Kalusugan food truck is deployed in target locations for 120 days.

The Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), and National Nutrition Council will collaborate on the initiative (NNC).

On September 26 last year, Davao City welcomed the first three Kalusugan food trucks.

OVP Assistant Chief of Staff Lemuel Ortonio stated, “For now, we will be defining one area for Luzon, one for the Visayas, and one for Mindanao.

Leaving no sector behind

Duterte also revealed some of the “watershed decisions” that are “firsts” for the OVP to ensure that no sector is left behind.

“The development of current social service programs, the implementation of initiatives to address lack of livelihood and the healing process following natural catastrophes and violent conflicts. She remarked that all of these lead to an Office of the Vice President that never abandons any sector.

Basic services were made available in satellite offices, including the original ones in Dagupan, Cebu, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Davao, Surigao del Sur, and Bacolod, in addition to Metro Manila.

According to Duterte, the satellite offices have improved the Office of the Vice President’s accessibility to Filipinos by providing various services like medical and funeral help.

As of October 5, there were approximately 98,293 participants in the “Libreng Sakay” (free ride) program, 11,355 medical assistance recipients totaling PHP124,579,964 with a PHP20,000 cap on individual aid, 1,960 recipients of burial assistance totaling PHP9,796,800, and 1,960 beneficiaries of burial assistance.

The OVP has also begun formalizing its disaster relief efforts to improve collaboration with relevant organizations and guarantee the prompt delivery of aid to affected Filipinos.

“We also gave PHP 5,000 to each of the 3,000 citizens of six municipalities in Nueva Ecija impacted by the recent typhoon Karding. The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided the PHP15 million in help to people in need, according to Duterte.

In addition to these initiatives, the OVP plans to roll out additional livelihood projects across the country that will largely help women and people who identify as LGBTQAI+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and/or bisexual plus) people.

Meanwhile, Duterte declared that the OVP would seek to enhance its offerings further, particularly now that they have a central headquarters. However, plans are also being made for a permanent OVP office.
