In its Coffee Production Level II program, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced Monday that it is adding 500 new spots.

According to TESDA Director General Danilo Cruz, “this training not only gives our coffee farmers and workers the most modern skills and knowledge to remain competitive, but it will also assist in maintaining a consistent supply of competent personnel for the industry.”

He continued by saying that enhancing the farmers’ abilities would enhance their output and competitiveness.

A collaborative training course with Nestlé Philippines Inc. (NPI) called Coffee Production Level II lasts for 176 hours, or 25 days.

According to TESDA, the extra 500 places will be for this year and the future. 230 trainees finished the program in 2022, while 268 are still in training.

This program, which aims to encourage worker entrepreneurship and raise competency requirements in coffee production and other associated training programs, targets more farmers as potential beneficiaries.

On contemporary coffee-growing methods and entrepreneurship, in-person and online learning is being done.

Both the TESDA Provincial Training Center in Sultan Kudarat and the Bukidnon Integrated Coffee Center (BIGCC) in Malaybalay City is hosting training sessions.

Agronomists from NPI assisted TESDA in creating training guidelines, competency benchmarks, and evaluation tools.

The NPI also provides farmers who are beneficiaries with startup toolkits for the coffee industry. Workbooks, record books, visual aids, and other training materials are included in the set.

Since the program’s debut in 2021, according to TESDA, over 700 farmers have completed the course.
