BOI has approved Pangasinan’s P91-million hog production project.
The Board of Investments (BOI) announced that it had authorized Sunjin Farm Solutions’ PHP91.49 million project to produce hogs in Bugallon, Pangasinan, which will boost domestic hog output by PHP563.15 million.
Sunjin’s hog-raising project, according to a statement from the BOI on Friday, will focus on breeding, gestation, farrowing, lactation, weaning, and growth of market hogs.
The project, which has a 1,775 metric ton capacity, can help the local hog sector, which was negatively impacted by African swine disease, recover.
“This effort will go a long way toward recouping the losses in pork production brought on by the ASF. The initiative of Sunjin Farm Solution Corporation will eventually help the nation’s domestic hog industry revive in the upcoming years, according to Ceferino Rodolfo, the BOI’s managing director and undersecretary of trade.
By 2026, it is anticipated that the new hog farm in Northern Luzon will be operating at full capacity.
The initiative complies with the Department of Agriculture’s Bantay ASF4 sa Barangay (BABay ASF) program and has received the department’s endorsement. Additionally, it supports the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) recently introduced Plant, Plant 2.0 Program, which continually strives for intensified local food production to increase local food sufficiency and improve resilience to natural calamities, including ASF, according to the investment promotion agency.
Strict biosecurity controls will be supported by semi-conventional housing for the Pangasinan farm’s operation.
By the World Health Organization’s advice to reduce the use of pharmaceuticals in food-producing animals, Sunjin claims that hogs from the Pangasinan farm will be free of hormone and antibiotic treatments.
By doing this, the overuse and abuse of antibiotics in animals—which breeds antibiotic resistance—will be lessened.
