Belmonte introduces QC’s climate change initiative in Argentina.
Presenting the city’s plans and initiatives to address climate change at the C40 World Mayors Summit 2022 is Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, who is now in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Belmonte wrote on Facebook on Thursday that she had received an invitation to the event because the city is also a finalist for the C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards.
The C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards honor the top initiatives, projects, and initiatives under the direction of mayors successfully addressing the climate challenge.
Belmonte participated in several events, including discussing with other mayors from member cities on advancing the city’s sustainable development initiatives and a bilateral meeting with C40 officials and Global Environment Facility representatives.
The municipal government’s post said, “There was also a roundtable discussion regarding critical problems and challenges facing global governance. Nagkaroon din ng pangunahing isyu at mga hamong kinahaharap ng pandaigdigang pamamahala.”
The “Legislatura de la Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires,” or the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, acknowledged Belmonte as a guest of honor by the city of Buenos Aires and was presented to her during the event.
“Only two mayors were selected for the celebration. Dalawang alkalde lang ang napiling bigyan nito, bukod kay Mayor Belmonte, nabigyan din ng recognition bilang guest of honor ang mayor ng Curitiba, Brazil na si Rafael Greca. Along with Mayor Belmonte, Rafael Greca of Curitiba, Brazil, received distinction as a guest of honor, according to the local government’s post.
C40 is a network of mayors from approximately 100 internationally renowned cities working together to undertake the immediate action required to address the climate issue.
Only 20 city projects, including the “GrowQC” project to support the city’s food security program, were picked as finalists out of the seventy cities worldwide that sought to participate in the coveted awards.
