Farm-to-market road construction in Aklan will assist 20,000 farmers
The Department of Agrarian Reform’s (DAR) farm-to-market road (FMR) projects, which it is collaborating on with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the provincial government, will shortly benefit at least 20,000 farmers in Aklan province.
DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III stated in a press statement on Tuesday that at least 1,924 ARBs and 19,123 non-ARBs “would soon enjoy the simplicity of transferring their products to the market.”
The completion of the projects, according to Eliserio Aguelo, an ARB from Barangay Naile in Ibajay town, will substantially assist them in transporting their agricultural products to the market and enabling them to sell them to the general public at a more affordable price.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no kailangang maglakbay for the residents of the maputik and madulas na kalsada to make a trip to the kabayanan. Aming pangarap din tutupad sa wakas. Because to DAR, farmers and locals are no longer required to drive on slick, muddy roads to get to town. Finally, our wish was realized. I appreciate DAR,” Aguelo stated.
The FMRs, according to DAR Western Visayas Regional Director Sheila Enciso, will assist the farmers in lowering transportation expenses and reducing the amount of time it takes for their goods to arrive at markets, preserving their freshness. The project would also speed up the supply of a number of government assistance services to farmers.
Enciso estimated a total cost of PHP50 million for the concreting of five FMRs in the province. Included in this are the PHP10 million concrete work done in Barangay Naile, PHP20 million on the Tagaroroc FMR in Barangay Tagaroroc, Nabas, PHP5 million on the Sta. Cruz-Biga-a road in Barangays Sta. Cruz and Biga-a in Lezo town, PHP10 million on the Aliputos road in Numancia town, and PHP5 million on the FMR in Barangay Dangcalan
According to Estrella, the building of the FMRs is in accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to provide farmers with essential support services in order to revive the nation’s agriculture sector by enhancing the flow of food supply.
According to Estrella, “This project will revolutionize the lives of the ARBs, as it will assist them in obtaining better prices for their products to enhance their income and way of life.”
