On Thursday, the Department of Education (DepEd) declared that schools in the province of Masbate would transition to blended learning while denouncing terrorist assaults carried out by communist rebels.

DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa stated in an interview that despite these assaults, the department will guarantee sustained learning deliveries.

“Grabe yung learning disruptions because of the numerous interactions with terrorists. Therefore, we want to make sure that there is continuity in the learning process (Learning disruptions as a result of these terrorist contacts are undeniable. We want to utilize the fact that there is a learning continuum, he stated.

The DepEd already announced that it would switch to a different delivery method in place of widespread class suspensions.

“Classes won’t be suspended universally. After careful consideration and proper coordination with the relevant LGU (local government unit), the school heads/principals may decide to suspend in-person classes and immediately switch to blended learning, keeping in mind the peace and order situation as well as the mental health of students and school staff, it stated.

The DepEd also denounced the rebels’ action, which interferes with kids’ efforts to get their learning back on track.

The alarming amount of communist rebel operations in Masbate, which have unnecessarily disrupted schooling in the province, is strongly denounced by the Department of Education (DepEd). Students and school staff who witnessed the senseless violence were traumatized by these terrorist crimes committed by the New People’s Army (NPA), the report stated.

Poa added that Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte has already contacted the appropriate authorities to guarantee the security of students and teachers.

Since their first meeting, the Vice President and the Secretary of Education have maintained an open line of communication with the army division commander in Masbate, and the Philippine Army has pledged to protect our students as well as our school staff in the area.

According to Poa, Duterte has stated a desire to evaluate the situation at Masbate’s impacted schools.

He remarked in a combination of English and Filipino, “The VP wants to visit the areas affected by the terrorist encounters as soon as we have clearance with authorities.”

Six communities have reportedly been impacted by the armed conflict as of this writing, according to Poa’s reports.

The DepEd asked the populace to be vigilant against terrorism and all forms of violence.
