The interruptible load program (ILP) capacity of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) would increase from the existing 560 MW to 616 MW.

Ayala Property Management Corp. (APMC) has once again committed to providing Meralco with a 56 MW additional de-loading capacity.

This would increase the distribution utility’s ILP capacity to 616 MW from its present 560 MW, according to a statement released on Monday by the real estate firm.

The ILP program asks large-load customers to use their own generators or scale back their operations rather than relying on grid electricity in order to control the energy demand from these customers.

At times of red alert or when the power supply cannot keep up with demand, this aids in preventing power outages in homes.

“Historically, the increasing usage of cooling appliances during the dry months causes an increase in electricity consumption. Because of this, Joe Zaldarriaga, vice president for corporate communications at Meralco, said, “We continue to share a variety of energy saving advice to not only help our customers better control their power use but also to encourage its adoption as a way of life.

Meralco currently has 117 businesses spread over its ILP franchise zones.
