The Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) recently prevented a 43-year-old female traveler from boarding her flight to Singapore at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1. She claimed to be a government employee.

The victim, whose name has been suppressed, was stopped on May 18 as she tried to board a Philippine Airlines flight headed for Singapore after the immigration officer questioned the validity of her travel authorization and recommended her for further inspection, according to a statement released by the BI on Monday.

It was discovered that the aforementioned travel authorization was a fraud after additional examination.

The report states that “the victim was not sure which municipality she worked in,” which casts more doubt on the circumstances of her journey.

Later on, she admitted that she had been hired through a friend’s network and had been texting her recruiter.

Additionally, she had sent her recruiter PHP15,000 using an electronic payment app. It was mandated that the victim delete their conversations.

The woman claimed that she had just arrived at the airport to board her flight when she had picked up her travel documents. She also acknowledged that Dubai was actually her last destination, where she expected to look for work or wait for her visa to Lebanon.

This instance demonstrates the lengths these traffickers will go to avoid rigorous immigration screening. Despite this, we are steadfast in our commitment to following the law and making sure that departing foreign workers are safe, according to Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking was contacted immediately to refer the victim for additional investigation and to file the proper charges against her recruiter.

All government workers are required to present a travel authority as proof that their agency has authorized their international trip.
