Benjamin Abalos Jr., secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), commended the German government for continuing to assist the agency’s development activities.

Abalos said this at a meeting with Anke Reiffenstuel, the German ambassador to Manila, on Monday in Camp Crame, Quezon City. He adds that he looks forward to further significant interactions in tourism, digitalization, and other industries.

According to Abalos, the German government has assisted the DILG over the years by providing technical support and capacity-building initiatives to improve the local government’s ability to provide services.

“The German government has consistently been kind and encouraging of our DILG development efforts. We are optimistic that our cooperation will continue to grow and pave the path for initiatives that will be more fruitful,” he added in a statement. Tuesday.

Abalos also wanted to investigate potential collaboration with the German government in innovation, tourism, sustainable development, digitalization, and intercultural encounters.

The Integrated Urban Climate Action for Low-Carbon and Resilient Cities (URBAN-ACT), supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, is one of the technical assistance initiatives in the works.

The initiative above, which supports the transformation of cities towards low-carbon and resilient urban development, will be lead implemented by the DILG.

The Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) Pillar 1 project, Sustainable Integrated Management and Planning for Local Government Ecosystems (SIMPLE), and the Mindanao Peace and Development Programme (MINPAD RISE) are additional initiatives that the German government supports through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
