Interested researchers, scientists, students, members of the academe, and other Filipino professionals, particularly engineers, have until July 29 to submit their applications, according to DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Pea.

He said that the new initiatives, which aim to improve Filipino researchers’ research skills, are part of the DOST-Human PCIEERD’s Resources Development Program (HRDP).

The following are some of them:

-Providing project-based personnel and researchers with resources, opportunities, and support (PROSPPER)

-Researchers on Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technologies – Creating Learning Opportunities (RIEETOOL)

-PCIEERD Regional Consortia Expert Intervention for Scientific Engagement (ExpertISE)

-Program for Science and Technology Fellows

Fellowships in Science Communication

PROSPPER, according to De la Pea, aims to assist project staff and academics working on PCIEERD-funded initiatives. They will be helped in obtaining graduate scholarships to complete their graduate degrees while getting research experience in PCIEERD-supported projects as part of the program.

Meanwhile, RIEETOOL helps researchers, scientists, engineers, professors, students, and staff from academic and research institutions, as well as government and commercial organizations, he added.

“Enhance their skills and expertise that are associated with the PCIEERD sectoral priority areas, DOST Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda-Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technologies (HNRDA-IEET), and other government or national priority roadmaps,” according to the program.

The ExperTISE initiative, on the other hand, seeks to strengthen regional consortia for industry, energy, and new technologies by raising knowledge of industry dynamics, cross-functional nature, and business realities, according to the DOST director.

The program also aims to create regional specialists who can identify prospective niches, industry gaps, difficulties, and R&D requirements, as well as conceive solutions to fill those gaps.

The S&T Fellows program is also on the PCIEERD’s list of new human resource development initiatives.

“S&T experts are invited to apply for the S&T Fellows Program to assist DOST to enhance the country’s S&T personnel resource. “It is a long-term engagement with the aim of improving the department’s affiliated agencies’ R&D know-how,” de la Pea added.

According to him, successful candidates are eligible for perks and wages ranging from Salary Grade 23 to 27, based on their qualifications.

“S&T fellows are required to lead, carry out, and promote R&D in the nation that is envisioned to stimulate socioeconomic progress as well as accelerate inclusive development in the countryside via state-of-the-art innovations,” he added.

De la Pea also mentioned the Council’s Science Communication Fellowship Program, which was launched in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Los Banos College of Development (UPLB-CDC).

The program’s goal is to “empower 40 scientists, researchers, and communications experts to better market their inventions and research findings to the general public.”

According to him, the program consists of a series of mentorship activities that will teach the principles of scientific communication, popularization methods, and communication material development abilities.

“Aspiring Pinoy scientific communicators should be a part of a PCIEERD-supported initiative with a minimum six-month duration,” de la Pea added.

On June 29, the DOST-PCIEERD celebrated its 11th anniversary with the theme “From Labs to Lives: Building R & D Capacities and Opportunities for Sustainable Recovery,” which included the introduction of the new HR development programs.
