The House of Representatives overwhelmingly accepted the proposal to broaden the coverage of the tertiary education subsidy on the third and final reading on Monday.

The House passed House Bill 10560, which seeks to alter Republic Act 10931, also known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, with 200 affirmative votes.

The bill aims to allow more impoverished and academically capable students to enroll at private higher educational institutions (HEIs) and benefit from TES coverage through the voucher system.

Underprivileged and academically competent students enrolling in the first undergraduate post-secondary tertiary education program of their choice in private HEIs and technical-vocational institutions are now eligible for the TES (TVIs)

It states that all TES recipients will continue to receive benefits or subsidies until they complete a post-secondary technical-vocational course or a higher education degree program.

Beneficiaries, on the other hand, must maintain their grades and residency requirements in line with the HEIs and TVIs’ laws.
