After Monday’s one-day nationwide “Bayanihan, Bakunahan,” seniors in the province of Antique may still get the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) immunization in the following days.

“Seniors who were unable to receive the particular Covid-19 vaccination today may still benefit from our other vaccination campaigns for their protection,” said Irene Dulduco, an information officer with the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO).

The “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” for elderly citizens began at the Binirayan Gymnasium in San Jose de Buenavista or at the towns’ approved immunization sites from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The special Covid-19 immunization was solely done to allow other senior citizens who were unable to join our regular Covid-19 drive to receive the vaccine,” Dulduco explained.

She stated that the number of seniors who were vaccinated during Monday’s program is still being tallied.

“There were also MHOs (municipal health officers) who did house-to-house vaccinations, particularly for bedridden elders who couldn’t get to the approved immunization sites,” she continued.

IPHO nurse Sheree Vego noted in a separate interview that their target population for vaccination is 62,029 seniors, of which 30,205 have already been vaccinated with the first dosage, leaving 31,824 who have still to be vaccinated.

According to the IPHO report dated January 30, 27,833 people received their second dose, and 2,281 received booster shots.

“Today’s activity was launched for seniors who had not yet been vaccinated as well as those who had had their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine but had not yet received their second dose and booster,” she added.
