Aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to typhoon victims has reached P125 million.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced on Wednesday that it has distributed PHP125 million in aid to households in Eastern Visayas (Region 8) who were impacted by Typhoon Odette in the previous six weeks.
According to DSWD Eastern Visayas regional director Grace Subong, a total of 173,340 family food packs (FFPs) worth PHP101 million had been provided to typhoon victims in the provinces of Southern Leyte, Leyte, and Eastern Samar.
Six kilograms of rice, four cans of corned beef, four cans of tuna flakes, two cans of sardines, five coffee sachets, and five cereal drink sachets are included in each FFP.
It will last two to three days for a family of five.
“We planned to distribute 106,000 food packs to Typhoon Odette victims in the region, but we’ve been creating more because local government entities continue to seek additional food packs.” “We’ve done the second and third wave of distribution in some locations,” Subong said in a phone interview.
Non-food items totaling PHP24 million have been distributed to typhoon victims in the provinces of Southern Leyte and Leyte.
Hygiene kits, cooking sets, sleeping kits, foldable water containers, and laminating sacks are examples of non-food items.
For the towns of Dulag, Hilongos, Hindang, Matalom, Tacloban City, Bato, Inopacan, Javier, Abuyog, and Mahaplag in Leyte, the DSWD released FFPs.
The towns of Anahawan, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, St. Bernard, San Juan, Silago, Liloan, Pintuyan, San Francisco, San Ricardo, Bontoc, Libagon, Limasawa, Maasin City, Macrohon, Malitbog, Padre Burgos, Sogod, and Tomas Oppus are among the grantees in Southern Leyte.
In the province of Eastern Samar, the agency also provided food bags to Mercedes town.
According to Subong, because the typhoon-affected districts are still in the early stages of recovery, the DSWD will only send aid to those who need it the most.
To expedite the distribution of post-typhoon supports, the DSWD has been working with other members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
“Odette” slammed into the Caraga and Eastern Visayas regions on December 16, with sustained winds of 195 kph in the center and gustiness of up to 270 kph.
It made two landfalls in Southern Leyte after hitting Surigao before wreaking havoc on Central Visayas.
