Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19, has stated that the reformulated vaccine against the coronavirus disease 2019 is safe for children and that the immunization program for children aged five to eleven would begin on February 7.

Galvez, who is also the vaccine czar, stated during the arrival of 780,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine for children at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Friday night, “This is safe and has been researched by scientists throughout the world.”

He said he could already see families going out together and youngsters running around freely since the government-supplied reformulated vaccine arrived.

“We are extremely optimistic that many people will support the government’s vaccination rollout,” he added, adding that this is vital as the country transitions to the “new normal.”

Galvez stated that 167,000 children had registered to participate in the minor vaccine scheduled for Monday.

He stated, “Cebu, Iloilo, and Bacolod are all very eager to participate.”

He also mentioned that the Philippine Pediatric Society supports the country’s vaccination initiatives.

“I urge parents to register their children so that we can provide them with Covid-19 protection,” Galvez stated.

Meanwhile, Heather Variava, the US Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires, defended the vaccination, claiming it is “extremely safe and effective” and that nearly six million children in the US had been immunized.

She explained that the vaccine is necessary so that children may socialize, play, and learn face-to-face once more.

As of February 2, according to the Philippines’ Covid-19 vaccination dashboard, a total of 127,617,088 doses had been delivered.
