Two sections of flood control facilities along the Alaminos River have been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The finished flood mitigation structures, according to DPWH Ilocos regional information officer Esperanza Tinaza, are projected to strengthen and safeguard coastal agricultural lands and prevent water intrusion, guaranteeing that inhabitants living nearby are protected from flooding.

Along the barangays of Pogo and Poblacion, the project is separated into pieces.

“Pile driving of steel sheet piles and slope protection construction are among the activities conducted for the completed project,” she said.

Tinaza stated that the Pogo segment will cost PHP38.7 million in total, while the Poblacion section will cost PHP36.8 million and will be paid by the General Appropriations Act of 2021.

“The Alaminos River flood mitigation facilities were built to reduce the risk of water surge, especially during typhoons or heavy rains.” These facilities will also aid in the preservation of the river’s natural beauty by preventing riverbank scouring,” she added.
