MANILA, Philippines — The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro (CDO) issued a warning to clergy and the faithful on Thursday about a rumored religious group begging for money around the city.

“It has recently come to my attention that a group known as the Order of Apostolican Missionaries (OAM), which is alleged to have a Mission House in Malaybalay City and a Formation House in Cagayan de Oro, is roaming around the city unscrupulously soliciting funds or donations for their religious community’s evangelization works and outreach programs,” Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Jose Cabantan said in a post on the archdiocese’

Cabantan went on to say that after further investigation, they discovered the organization has no ties to the archbishop.

“This group does not exist, according to our Catholic Directory of the Philippines and the Chancery Office of Malaybalay.” “It may have been called “Catholic,” but it has nothing to do with us,” he remarked.

Cabantan advised the public to report such events as soon as possible.

“I warned all the faithful to be particularly vigilant against this phony group,” he said. Please contact our chancery office if you have any similar situations,” he added.
