Gen. Dionardo Carlos, the Philippine National Police Chief, confirmed on Tuesday that he has tested positive with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and has been placed in isolation.

“Unfortunately, I, like my duty driver and assistant who were in the van with me Sunday morning, tested positive.” “On Sunday evening, I had a fever, chills, and body sweats, but on Monday, only lower back pain remained,” Carlos said in a message to reporters. “I’m in quarantine, as per our HS’s (Health Service) instructions.”

On Sunday, he and his close-knit security and crew conducted a swab test.

In the meantime, the PNP reported a 107-percent spike in Covid-19 infections on Tuesday.

The additional cases raise the overall number of current illnesses among police officers to 164, according to PNP data.

On December 26 and 27, 2021, the PNP had no cases.

However, on December 28, the PNP began receiving reports of new Covid-19 illnesses.

The PNP has registered a total of 42,370 cases, 42,081 of which have already recovered from the disease, while 125 people have died.

As of Tuesday, 215,916 PNP personnel, or 95.49 percent, had received their first dose of the vaccine, while 8,702, or 3.85 percent, were yet to receive their second. A total of 1,492 people, or 0.66 percent, are still unvaccinated.
