MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported the destruction of over PHP101 million worth of illegal agricultural products in Pampanga on Thursday.

The illegal products, such as onions, carrots, fish, and other seafood, were discovered inside 14 pieces of 40-footer containers with a total value of PHP101.13 million consigned to various consignees such as Zhenpin Consumer Goods Trading, Gingarnion Agri Trading, and Schnell Wert OPC, according to a statement from Port of Subic District Collector Maritess Martin.

The goods were seized by the Port of Subic for violating several Department of Agriculture Administrative Orders and Circulars, namely Section 1400 (misdeclaration) of Republic Act 10863, often known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

The agricultural items were destroyed in a Pampanga non-hazardous waste disposal facility through rendering, shredding, dumping, and thermal decomposition.

According to the BOC, the condemnation process began on March 31 and was completed recently.

Smuggled goods landed in the nation in December 2020, June and December 2021, and June and December 2022.

Martin pledged that the Port of Subic will stay watchful and committed to its mission of preventing the entry of forbidden products into the country’s boundaries.
