Tamiya, a Japanese company, is investing P2-B in the Philippines this year to expand.
MANILA, Philippines – Tamiya, Inc., a Japanese manufacturer of plastic model kits and radio-controlled cars, is expanding its manufacturing facilities in the Philippines.
Tamiya will invest PHP2 billion in a new manufacturing line inside Cebu Light Industrial Park, according to a statement released by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Tuesday.
Tamiya’s only manufacturing facility outside of Japan is in Cebu, while the firm also has operations in the United States, Germany, and Hong Kong.
“The fact that Tamiya has been operating in the Philippines for about 30 years and is now expanding despite the challenges of the pandemic is testament to the enabling environment that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with his economic managers, have created for foreign direct investors,” DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said.
Tamiya hopes to increase its manufacturing capacity by 20% over the next three years, resulting in a 5% rise in output.
The new plant is expected to open in September 2023, according to the Japanese manufacturer.
It will add 300 employees to its existing model assembly workforce of over 1,200 when the new factory is completed.
Hobbyists all across the world prefer Tamiya automobiles because of their remarkable quality and accuracy.
“We are honored that a firm known for its ‘First in Quality Around the World’ attitude has entrusted our employees with such a monumental task. Filipino employees’ quality, efficiency, and productivity will always be the Philippines’ best and most competitive resource,” Lopez remarked.
