MANILA, Philippines — Within a week, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) hopes to announce the 12 senators who won Monday’s election.

“We can finish it this week.” In a news conference on Tuesday, Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said, “Hopefully, this week, if we can achieve it, we will proclaim.”

The declaration, he stressed, would still be contingent on transmission findings from the City Board of Canvassers (CBOC) or the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC).

“Let’s check if it can’t effect results in other areas any longer, because this transfer to our transparency server isn’t the basis for announcing senators.” “Our foundation is the PBOC’s or CBOC’s report to the NBOC (National Board of Canvassers),” he explained.

“So the transmitted results from the PBOC or CBPC to the NBOC are the basis of proclamation of our senators and even party-lists,” Casquejo explained. “If they were able to transmit, then we may declare the winning senators and party-lists.”

Election turnout

Meanwhile, Casquejo estimated voting participation to be 80.38 percent.

“We only have a partial figure because several provinces haven’t finished yet.” The voter turnout is around 80.38 percent. We anticipate that it will rise. He stated, “We still have over 1,000 (vote counting machines [VCMs] that have not to transmit.”

“In 2016, it was about 81 percent; in 2019, it’s around 70 percent.” We’ve reached 80.38 percent. As a result, we anticipate a similar or even larger turnout than in 2016. “We all know that many people want to vote in presidential elections,” he remarked.

“On the voters want to vote,” he remarked when asked when they will attribute the high voter turnout. They sincerely desire that their ballots be counted.”

On the other hand, he expressed confidence in the accuracy of the partly unofficial findings.

“If you canvass it, because it is based on transmission, the results will never alter after it has been transferred to the canvassing center,” Casquejo explained.

According to the most recent data, 103,970 Certificates of Canvass (COCs) have been sent out, accounting for 80.38 percent of the total. Only 3,995 VCMs have been sent so far.
