Labor organizations in the Ilocos Region applaud the salary increase.

The salary hike announced on June 6 has been praised by labor groups in the Ilocos Region, who believe it is opportune in light of rising food prices.

“Nagtanong tanong tayo sa ating mga kasamahan at parehas sila ng sinasabi na malaking tulong ito bagaman masasabi natin na kulang pa ito subalit sapat na din pandagdag sa mga tumataas na pangangailangan,” Catherine Pangan, a

She explained that the additional PHP30 in the minimum salary of employees in the Ilocos Region is primarily used to cover their transportation and petrol expenses.

“Although they are pleased with the increase in the minimum wage, we hope that the economy will be able to fully recover and that employee wages will rise much higher,” she said.

According to Pangan, they emphasized to the employees that the salary increase would be granted in installments because micro, small, and medium businesses would struggle to provide a one-time wage increase.

“We hope that we will all be able to overcome the pandemic’s consequences,” she stated.

In the Ilocos Region, the minimum wage rate for non-agricultural businesses with 30 or more employees was established at PHP370, PHP340 for businesses with 10 to 29 employees, and PHP312 for businesses with one to nine employees.

The minimum rate in the agriculture industry is now PHP312 for non-plantation and PHP325 for plantation.

The minimum monthly wage for domestic workers is now PHP5,000.
