The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have decided to only distribute help to individuals having an online registration or QR Code in order to carry out a more orderly payout of the educational assistance for destitute students.

“Now, however, we will only serve individuals who have registered online or who have obtained a QR code. In order to prevent what occurred on the first day of the roll-out, we would no longer accept walk-ins. “The ceremonial signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOA) with the DILG took place on Wednesday at the DSWD Central Office in Quezon City, according to DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo.

The organization will develop a virtual registration system. Although the online mechanism has not yet been disclosed, the DSWD can be reached at 0931-796-0362 or ciu.co@dswd.gov.ph.

Qualified students, according to the DSWD, must wait for the text confirmation before scheduling and processing help.

Cash assistance will be given to “students-in-crisis” through the DSWD’s Educational Assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) to help cover the costs of school tuition, school supplies, transportation allowance, and other school-related expenses.

In order to make sure that local government units (LGUs) follow the law, the DILG and its different Regional and Field offices shall exert supervisory power over the LGUs, as stipulated in the signed MOA.

The DILG was contacted by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. shortly after the “messy” distribution last August 20.

For his part, DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos stated that the department will help with the delivery of relevant relief and humanitarian support under the convergence program, but he made it clear that the DSWD, not local elected officials, will be providing the funding.

Not the governor, mayor, or barangay captain, he continued, “DSWD will have the list.”

Tulfo thanked the populace for their patience and understanding in the meanwhile.

“We appreciate DILG, under the leadership of Secretary Abalos, for offering their assistance to DSWD right away in order to help it discover better ways to administer the payout for educational assistance, particularly given the necessity for everyone to protect the client’s safety and health. Our administration wants to create this cooperation in order to use bayanihan and operate as a unit. A lesson that we took to heart, especially last Saturday when it opened our eyes, “added Tulfo.

Up until September 24, 2022, the roll-out will take place every Saturday.
