Continued wearing of a face mask demonstrates students’ feeling of responsibility.
As long as they continue to wear masks in the classroom, particularly in crowded spaces, students are assuming personal responsibility for their safety, according to the Department of Education in the Cordillera Administrative Region (DepEd-CAR).
According to Dr. Estela Cario, director of DepEd Cordillera, “our students still wear their facemasks within the classroom even if they are not forced to use them, which is a good sign that they are thinking about their safety.”
The official observed that students of all levels had continued to wear face masks inside of the classrooms throughout her trips to the schools since the start of courses on November 2.
The director stated, “It is not required, but we encourage it, especially in schools that are full and also taking into account the indoor situation.”
She added that two years into the pandemic, everyone has learned the need of protecting themselves by using face masks, a lesson that students have been taught to internalize.
In accordance with Executive Order (EO) 7 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on October 28, the DepEd ordered public schools to make wearing face masks in class optional.
According to the EO, wearing a face mask indoors is optional, with the exception of places like hospitals, ambulances, and public transit.
Seniors, those with comorbid conditions, those who are immunocompromised, those who are pregnant, those who are unvaccinated, and those who are sick should continue to be advised to wear masks.
The EO also exhorted the general public to take care when following health protocols, such as maintaining sufficient ventilation, washing hands frequently, keeping a physical distance, and practicing excellent cleanliness, especially indoors.
