The United States and France continue to work more closely with the Philippines on marine defense and law enforcement.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received 12 sets of medical and diving equipment to help with its search and rescue and maritime law enforcement operations in Palawan, according to the US Embassy in Manila on Thursday.

This comes as the US Embassy Civil Affairs Team’s five-day medical training to improve the organization’s trauma care and lifesaving capabilities during marine security operations come to a close.

“Our staff members here in the PCG area of Palawan can benefit from this training in medical first aid,” says the speaker. PCG District Palawan commander Commodore Rommel Supangan noted in Filipino that this is particularly crucial for the Special Operations Group members who are often the first to respond to emergencies, such as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

“This training increases their knowledge so they can do their missions,”

Additionally this week, Chief of Naval Staff Commodore Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta of the Philippine Navy and Brig. Gen. Caroline Salahun, Asia-Pacific Director of the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), paid a courtesy call on the interim Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippine Navy.

On November 9, the two representatives spoke about future defense cooperation between France and the Philippines as well as their “shared concerns.”

The meeting gave Salahun the chance to contribute to solidifying the ongoing partnership between the two states.

The French government’s defense technology and procurement agency are called DGA.

It manages the development, procurement, and program management of weapon systems for the French armed forces.
