APEC gives the Philippines more trade and investment prospects.

Speaker Martin G. Romualdez stated on Tuesday that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s attendance at the next Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting in Thailand offers the nation even more chances for sustained economic progress.

Romualdez told reporters from the House, “The APEC Summit is a step up because there are more developed countries involved,” highlighting the significance of having tight relationships with other leaders of other nations or economies.

President Marcos is “a very able statesman,” according to Romualdez, and the Philippines is fortunate to have him as a leader.

He claimed that the country’s stronger-than-expected third-quarter economic growth of 7.6 percent, the decline in the unemployment rate, a young population, and the dollar remittances of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), among other things, are among the factors that Marcos can use to promote the nation as an alluring investment or tourism destination as well as a good trading partner.

“Therefore, I believe it is time to announce that the Philippines is doing well. The Philippines’ economy is doing well, and now is the time to invest there in order to attract more foreign direct investments and the money we need to create more jobs and sources of income for Filipinos, as well as to strengthen and revitalize the economy and ensure that all Filipinos live in safety and comfort, according to Romualdez.

The Speaker, who accompanied Marcos to the most recent ASEAN summits in Cambodia, will also be a member of the Philippine government’s official delegation at APEC.

Romualdez mentioned that the APEC Summit offers him the chance to interact with his peers in the member countries’ legislative bodies, citing his experience at ASEAN summits.

For instance, Romualdez cited how the visit to the Philippines by the head of the Vietnamese National Assembly, who is allegedly one of the leading candidates to succeed his country’s current Prime Minister, was announced during the bilateral meeting between the Philippines and Vietnam.

So, these kinds of engagements are quite important. Because it is simpler to communicate, coordinate, and assist one another in many sectors — whether it be economical, trade, or inter-parliamentary relations — it creates better harmony when you have personal contact with these leaders, Romualdez added.

He claimed that as the economy has grown global, the Philippines will benefit from fostering better trade with other nations, which may be accomplished by creating strong trade agreements with ally economies.

“And that is often molded by legislation, though occasionally by policies ordered by heads of state. Therefore, these engagements and visits are quite advantageous, according to Romualdez.

APEC is an intergovernmental organization that supports free trade in the Asia-Pacific region and has 21 member economies.

Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam are among the 21 economies that make up APEC.
