A job order employee of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has been fired for allegedly posing as an immigration officer when he was detained for his involvement in an extortion case in Muntinlupa City.

The worker, who was not identified, was detained and attempted to be robbed inside a foreigner’s home in the Ayala Alabang Village on November 22, according to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco. The worker and nine other people were also detained.

During the arrest, the employee identified himself as an immigration official.

He is a job order employee, not an immigration official, according to our documents, which we checked. He was a job order (JO) employee, not authorized to make arrests; instead, he was given mundane office duties to complete, the BI head stated in a press release.

Tansingco demanded the employee’s immediate dismissal after learning of the incident and the false statement.

For the purpose of pursuing the filing of criminal charges against the employee, the BI is also closely collaborating with the Philippine National Police.

He tarnishes the reputation of the Bureau, which we work so hard to uphold. We promptly terminated his services because we would not put up with any such illegal behavior, and he will continue to face any pending criminal charges, Tansingco added.
