DBM approves the distribution of more than P2-B for PhilHealth members in need.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) will receive more than PHP2 billion in cash to cover the insurance premium subsidies for its indigent members, according to a Monday announcement from the Department of Budget and Management.

The remaining 673,965 indigent members enrolled in the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) for the months of January through December of this year are covered by the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO), according to a press release from DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

“We are pleased that before the year is over, we were able to pay the last of our kababayans’ health premium subsidies. This is how the DBM is demonstrating its support for President Marcos Jr.’s initiative to ensure accessible, affordable health care for all Filipinos, Pangandaman stated.

The National Health Insurance Program of the PHIC charges the most recent release against the built-in appropriation for the fiscal year 2022. (NHIP).

Through three different SAROs, the DBM has already issued more than PHP79.93 billion for the subsidies, which corresponds to various billings for the entire year, or January to December 2022.

This covers the health insurance premiums for the 21,161,308 indirect contributors.

Hangarin ng National Health Insurance Program ay maganda po (The National Health Insurance Program has good intentions). Because of this, we made sure that the program will have a steady stream of funding for the following year,” she said.

Pangandaman claims that the DBM has allotted more than PHP100 billion for the NHIP’s implementation in the fiscal year 2023.

With reference to the need to “bring medical services to the people and not wait for them to come to our hospitals and health care centers,” Marcos emphasized the importance of a stronger healthcare system in the nation during his first State of the Nation Address.

The NHIP, which aims to offer health insurance coverage and provide reasonable, acceptable, available, and accessible healthcare services for all Filipinos, must be administered by PhilHealth.

The Universal Health Care Act (UHC), which former president Rodrigo Duterte signed in February 2019, automatically enrolls all Filipino citizens in the government’s insurance program.

The purpose of RA 11223 is to guarantee that all Filipinos have access to inexpensive, acceptable, and available healthcare services.
