4.4M workers benefit from DOLE’s employment facilitation initiatives.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), its programs to facilitate employment helped almost 4.4 million job searchers, including workers looking for improved employment possibilities, this year.

The agency said in a statement on Tuesday that various initiatives have been used to train and upgrade the abilities of workers for jobs both domestically and abroad.

The 6,627 seafarers who completed the National Maritime Polytechnic’s (NMP), the only government-run maritime research facility, Maritime Training Skills Competency were among them.

To improve Filipino seafarers’ acceptance for employment in the domestic and international shipping industry, the NMP offers skills and competency training.

It also stated that 631,410 trainees have been certified by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) Skills Development Program as part of its apprenticeship and vocational training programs.

In spite of the limitations imposed by the Covid-19 epidemic, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), another connected agency of the DOLE, administered 41 Professional Licensure Examinations to more than 116,000 examinees.

The department also recruited 102,025 young people for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), the Government Internship Program (GIP), and JobStart this year in an effort to promote a more active school-to-work transition.

An employment-bridging program known as SPES gives low-income but deserving students, out-of-school youth, and dependents of displaced or potentially displaced workers temporary employment.

GIP offers graduates from high schools, technical-vocational schools, or colleges the chance to work in regional or federal government agencies.

On the other side, JobStart is a DOLE initiative that gives young Filipinos preparation for the workforce through career counseling, technical training, life skills instruction, and internships with businesses.

Over 100,000 job seekers attended the 521 job fairs that DOLE held while the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) health and safety standards were being strictly followed.

It has recommended employers and training facilities to up to 1 million job seekers via the Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs).

Nearly 970,000 of these applicants were hired this year.
