Bicol will get SIM registration booths from NTC
Local government units (LGUs) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will establish satellite subscriber identity module (SIM) registration facilities in the Bicol Region to help people who are having trouble registering their mobile phones.
In a radio interview on Thursday, attorney Judy Ann Bilangel, the NTC’s legal officer, said they would put up registration booths that would be open to the public for 60 days.
“We still have areas in the Bicol region that don’t have consistent internet or mobile data services, so in 60 days, our telcos will set up satellite or booth registrations in collaboration with NTC, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), various LGUs, and the Department of Education (DepEd). We will list the locations where people can go for assistance registering their SIM or cell numbers in the coming days “said Bilangel.
According to their surveillance, she claimed that such booths are currently operational and providing services to the inhabitants of Naga City.
Bilangel emphasized the low participation rate in SIM registration at the moment and cited the traffic on the online servers, the slow internet connection, and the challenges with filling out the forms as some of the causes.
She listed the following reasons: “Yung ibang reasons po, mahina or walang access sa internet (other reasons were weak or no access to the internet), some identification cards provided were not accepted during the registration, and last are those senior citizens who have difficulties filling the necessary data in the website,” she said.
Additionally, Bilangel encouraged analog phone customers to use a friend or relative’s smartphone to set up their SIM.
But if they are worried about privacy, she added, they can wait for the satellite booths or go to the malls and seek help from the wireless centers of their SIM card suppliers.
NTC-Bicol advised locals to register their cellphone numbers as soon as possible.
