Additional restrictions on Chinese travelers are not necessary: DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) stated on Friday that there is no need to place extra Covid-19 restrictions on arriving tourists from China.

In a media forum, DOH officer-in-charge Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated, “As to the additional restrictions in terms of what’s happening in China, saka po ‘yung mga pumapasok sa atin galing sa China, whether it be foreign nationals or Filipinos, we don’t see any reason” (those entering our country, whether it be foreign nationals or Filipinos, we don’t see any reason) based

In response to worries and recommendations for tighter controls on tourists arriving from China, where Covid-19 cases have grown, Vergeire made the statement.

After eight unvaccinated Filipinos from China tested positive for Covid-19 upon their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport between December 27, 2022, and January 2, 2023, the DOH has increased surveillance of incoming visitors.

Vergeire stated that because “contact between and among diverse populations has transpired globally,” decisions regarding the existing regulations should not be focused on China’s circumstances.

The eight unvaccinated Filipinos from China who tested positive for Covid-19 have 89 close contacts that have been identified by the DOH.

Vergeire reassured the populace that all of them are being watched over by the appropriate municipal governments and health agencies.

Only one of them showed signs of Covid-19, and as a result, is now being isolated.

On the first trip, 19 close contacts were found, including 18 foreigners and a Filipino. One is partially immunized, one is unvaccinated, and 17 of the 19 have had all of their vaccinations.

On the second flight, close contacts from 16 foreign countries and 7 Filipinos were recognized. They are all completely immunized.

On the third flight, close contacts were determined to be about 27 completely immunized Filipinos. One of them showed symptoms, while the other 26 were asymptomatic.

On the fourth flight, 12 foreigners and 8 Filipinos were recognized as close connections.
