Maynilad invests PHP19 billion in new sewer pipes.
In order to increase sewerage services for its clients, Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) would invest approximately PHP19 billion over the next five years, from 2023 to 2027, in the construction of 121 kilometers of additional sewer lines.
“By properly collecting and treating sewage, we can protect the environment and the health of the community, which is why we are installing new sewer lines. In order to expedite the construction of these pipe-laying projects in their region, we appeal for the continuous collaboration of the local government entities, said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Randolph Estrellado in a statement on Tuesday.
The new sewer pipelines will be installed in portions of the cities of Manila, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Bacoor, Las Pias, Caloocan, and Quezon. They will collect used water produced by about 2.1 million customers and transport it to Maynilad’s Sewage Treatment Plants for proper treatment before discharge to the ecosystem.
Estrellado claimed that Maynilad works closely with the barangays and communities to reduce any disturbance caused to the general public as a result of these pipe-laying activities. A temporary asphalt surface is also installed on affected roadways as a way to restore traffic flow.
According to Maynilad, it also routinely inspects its contractors’ work sites to make sure that they are completely surrounded by boarded-up barricades, have the proper lighting, and have traffic/warning signs.
Currently, Maynilad manages and maintains 22 wastewater treatment facilities, 625 kilometers of sewer lines, and a capacity to handle about 664 million liters of wastewater every day.
In terms of customer base, Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines.
It is the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s (MWSS) concessionaire for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which includes the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus as well as the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario in the province of Cavite. It also includes the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in Cavite province.
