Navy personnel being briefed on the combat systems aboard BRP Antonio Luna
On January 12 and 13, military troops from the missile frigate BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) were given a firsthand look at the Naval Shield Combat Management System (NSCMS) deployed aboard the offshore patrol boat BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16).
The missile frigate wrote on its Facebook page on Monday, “BRP Antonio Luna has served a productive and purposeful local informational program visit (IPV) to the students of NSCMS of BRP Ramon Alcaraz PS16 last 12-13 January 2023.”
NSCMS, which is made up of onboard sensors that can identify and keep an eye on approaching the surface, air, and subsurface threats, is regarded as the brain of the Jose Rizal-class frigates. It also offers access to weapons that can eliminate these dangers.
“Said IPV provided the students with the necessary information and hands-on training to enable them to comprehend the complex shipboard systems and to increase their level of respect for contemporary naval combat. Additionally, this IPV assisted the officers and troops in better preparing for their upcoming duties as directors of warfare and operations “Antonio Luna, BRP, remarked.
The crew of BRP Ramon Alcaraz is visiting BRP Antonio Luna for the second time to conduct a local IPV and provide on-the-job training for their students in accordance with their NSCMS familiarization course.
“FF-151 is truly appreciative to have shown the PS-16 CIC team the warship’s cutting-edge technology and capabilities,” it continued.
The BRP Antonio Luna and its sister ship, the BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150), are modern warships equipped with cutting-edge electronic sensors, long-range missiles, acoustic-guided torpedoes, and mounted anti-submarine helicopters. They are capable of engaging in surface, subsurface, air, and electronic warfare.
The BRP Antonio Luna was commissioned on March 19, 2021, while the BRP Jose Rizal was delivered to the Philippines in May 2020 and commissioned in July of that same year.
A PHP16 billion deal was made for the two ships, and a further PHP2 billion was set aside for munitions and weaponry.
