The local municipal government is planning to organize more MICE, or meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibits, this year in an effort to grow the local tourism sector and attract more visitors, money, and investments.

The objective is to draw one to two events that can hold up to 3,000 delegates each, according to Councilor Jason Villarosa, chair of the City Council’s tourism committee.

According to the city’s capabilities, he continued, “Our objective is 1,000 to 3,000 delegates.

The Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub, the longest-running and most prestigious amateur golf event in the nation, will be held in Bacolod in 2024, according to Villarosa. The city also hopes to draw professional associations of doctors and dentists to hold conventions there.

The Tourism Promotions Board claims that MICE represents specialist tourism industries that need better standards of facilities and services.

The Bacolod Meetings and Conventions Promotions Board (BMCPB) met for the first time in December of last year in an effort to promote Bacolod as a top MICE destination following the passage of City Ordinance 08-14-680 or the MICE Ordinance of Bacolod City in 2014.

According to Executive Order (EO) 56 by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, “As Bacolod City gradually returns to its previous robust economic position, there is a need to convene the BMCPB to safeguard the quality of services of Bacolod City in accommodating MICE.”

The goal, according to Benitez, who is also the board chairman, is to enhance and promote Bacolod as a prime venue or destination for domestic and worldwide MICE.

In addition, EO 56 said that the BMCPB will work to create incentive programs to promote MICE entry into Bacolod City and the Province of Negros Occidental as well as initiatives to cultivate international MICE specialists.

Additionally, it will create baseline data to serve as a foundation for MICE events, promote inbound tourist and trade missions, create marketing materials, and provide organizers with incentives and support.
