60 motorbikes will shortly be given to the provincial offices of the Department of Agrarian Reform in Bicol (DAR-5) in order to expedite the field validation activities for the Support to Parcelization of Lands for Individual Titling (SPLIT) Project.

The 60 motorcycles that came last Friday are among the 820 units that the DAR central office purchased for a total of PHP123 million, according to Gerard Buensalida, spokesperson for DAR-5, in an interview on Monday.

“The cost of all 60 units is PHP9 million, or PHP150,000 for each unit. The Department of Agrarian Reform’s SPLIT Project is a World Bank-funded initiative. Before distributing them to the provincial offices, we must still wait for the necessary documentation to be finished as instructed by the DAR Central office, but it will happen as soon as possible “explained he.

According to him, in order to convert the 1.38 million hectares of collective land titles known as Collective Certificate of Land Ownership Awards, or CCLOAs, into individual land titles nationally, field officers will need to work on 116,663 hectares in Bicol.

The SPLIT project will partition the lands provided under CCLOAs, and the farmer-beneficiaries who were previously given lands under communal ownership would be given individual property titles.
