Tuesday saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Cemex Holdings Philippines, Inc. (CHP) and The Manila Water Co., Inc. (MWCI) to work together and look into options of mutual interest to accomplish their respective corporate sustainability goals.

The water firm stated in a news release that the convergence of corporate objectives and strategic commitment of both CHP and Manila Water makes it an appealing partnership to advance decarbonization and future energy.

According to the MOU, the CHP and Manila Water will develop and work together on initiatives that employ biosolids as alternative fuels to drive the circular economy’s sustainable goals.

Both parties will also look into joint ventures in the fields of campaigning for clean energy and water conservation, the preservation and restoration of biodiversity, and the development of innovative sustainable goods and services.

In accordance with the MOU, Manila Water and CHP will cooperate on projects that are included as components of the roadmap and share their knowledge, experience, and best practices in doing so.

The partnership between the CHP and Manila Water will aim to strengthen the role of business to provide better solutions, in response to the climate issue, as more companies view climate change as one of their top risks and recognize the Philippines as one of the most vulnerable to its repercussions.

President and CEO of CHP Luis Guillermo Carrillo, Vice President for Planning Jesus Ortiz dela Fuente, President and CEO of Manila Water Jose Victor de Dios, and Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Operating Officer for International Business Roberto Jose Locsin were all present during the ceremony.
