7 LGUs in Negros receive P47 million in incentive cash from DILG.
The Department of the Interior of Local Government has given a total of PHP47 million in incentive cash to six cities and a municipality in the province of Negros Occidental, all of which received the 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) (DILG).
The cities of Bago, Himamaylan, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, and Talisay each received PHP7 million during the symbolic check distribution event held at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in this city on Tuesday afternoon, while the municipality of Hinobaan earned PHP5 million.
Bago will use the SGLG Incentive Fund (IF) for post-harvest facilities for fisheries, according to a list released on Wednesday; Himamaylan, the purchase of automobiles for four city offices and agencies; Construction of a sidewalk in Sagay; renovation of a road in Barangay Codcod; concreting of a road in San Carlos; building of overflow bridges and roads in Silay; installation of more electric street lights in Talisay; and installation of street lighting powered by renewable energy in Hinoba-an.
According to the DILG’s standards, the recipient local government units (LGUs) must use the cash for the approved projects by the end of the year, according to provincial administrator Rayfrando Diaz II.
Governor Eugenio Lacson thanked the winning LGUs in a statement for their diligence, effectiveness, and commitment to result-driven public service as well as for their dedication to fostering transparency and accountability in government.
He continued, “Your excellent leadership inspires everyone and demonstrates the beneficial effects that a single good leader can have on his office and constituents.
The local chief executives and their representatives signed a vow during the awarding ceremonies to support the DILG’s programs, projects, and activities as well as to implement the approved projects supported by the 2022 SGLG IF efficiently and effectively.
The incentive is given to the LGU grantees along with the SGLG marking and can be used to promote local development projects that have been determined to be important in the area and are reflected in the Annual Investment Program and Local Development Investment Program.
The monies will be distributed right away as a reward for the outstanding performance and high level of public service provided by these LGUs, according to a separate statement from DILG-Western Visayas Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero.
The Local Governance Performance Management Program of the DILG offers qualifying LGUs an incentive in the form of a cash award known as the SGLG IF, formerly known as the Performance Challenge Fund, which was established in 2010.
The SGLG is a performance-based reform initiative of the DILG, as stated in Republic Act 11292, also known as the SGLG Act of 2019.
Teodora Sumagaysay, the provincial director of the DILG-Negros Occidental, expressed the DILG’s expectation that you will continue to promote superior local administration and pursue the SGLG seal.
