It’s past time for the government to implement a uniform position categorization and remuneration structure in order to acknowledge the substantial contributions made by barangay (village) authorities, staff, and volunteers.

In order to guarantee that village employees are fairly compensated and afforded benefits, Senator Raffy Tulfo introduced Senate Bill 1696, often known as the Magna Carta for Barangay Officials, Personnel, and Volunteer Workers.

As a result of COVID-19, a few healthcare professionals also passed away while carrying out their duties),” Tulfo stated in a statement on Friday.

Village employees must meet the minimum and maximum wage requirements, be covered by the Government Service Insurance System, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and the Home Development Mutual (Pag-IBIG) Fund, and be eligible for benefits such as hazard allowance, death and burial benefits, among other things, according to the measure.

The bill also attempts to give barangay officers preference when granting civil service eligibility and when making government appointments.

In order for the village and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth) officials to earn not just honoraria but also the salary, hazard pay, and other perks of their fellow government employees, Senator Christopher Go introduced a similar bill in 2019.
