For the time being, PBBM will continue to lead the DA.
Before choosing a replacement, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated on Friday that he would rather handle the “hard stuff” himself as the director of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Before returning to Manila, Marcos gave a media interview in Switzerland and stated that he would only select a successor after completing his to-do list for the DA.
“All the difficult stuff, that’s what I’m going to win now. In order to cross off everything on my bucket list, I must first complete all the difficult things. I will depart once I have crossed everything off my bucket list and completed it. Then I’ll give it to someone else,” added Marcos, who also serves as the DA secretary.
The President stated in August 2022 that he had three “dreams” for the nation’s agricultural industry: a sustainable means of subsistence for farmers, food security, and access to inexpensive food for everybody.
He stated in November of last year that the list of potential successors “keeps changing” and it would be some time before he actually relinquished the DA portfolio.
expert in agriculture
Marcos responded “No” when asked if he was thinking about nominating a retired military or police general as his successor.
He asserted that a person with knowledge of agriculture should have the post.
Agricultural experts are needed ([My successor] must be an expert in agriculture). The subject of agriculture is extremely complex. Hindi is still used for managing in the Sino-Sino language (You cannot appoint just anybody there to manage [the DA]). They must comprehend the science… They must comprehend the solution. They must also comprehend the system, he continued.
“Except if they work in agriculture. People who have retired have been significantly interested in agriculture, so why not? (There are people who have retired.) Possibly knowledgeable.
Weeks after taking office as president last year, Marcos made the decision to temporarily lead the DA in order to handle the nation’s impending food crisis.
It will take a president to alter and turn the agriculture sector around, he had claimed, because the issues are “deeply rooted” and “very complex.”
