Red Cross and PCSO collaborate in PH for bloodletting event

In an effort to replenish the nation’s blood supply, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) have joined forces.

According to a news release issued by PRC on Sunday, a total of 83 blood units were produced during the bloodletting event that took place on January 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PCSO Head Office on Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.

Richard Gordon, chairman, and CEO of PRC thanked funders and collaborators for their support throughout the years, particularly the PCSO.

“Ang dugo is not capable of producing a thing. Ang maaari lang pagkuhanan ng dugo ng mga nangangailangan nito ang tanging mga donasyon ng dugo. If such is the case, I would want to express my gratitude to the donors and partners who are part of the PCSO’s initiative to support the Philippine Red Cross in its blood donation campaign. Humans cannot create blood; it is necessary for all Filipinos to participate in this action. The only thing that can be gotten from individuals in need is blood donations. I want to express my gratitude for this to our donors and partners, like PCSO, who has worked with the Philippines Red Cross on this blood donation initiative for many years. All Filipinos will benefit from the blood we shall draw from this action, Gordon remarked.

As part of their “similar and synchronized objective” of assisting people, PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles praised the PCSO for supporting PRC’s blood donation initiatives.

The PCSO has been a long-time participant in PRC’s Blood Samaritan Program, which seeks out charitable people and organizations willing to donate money to help needy patients pay their processing fees for blood.

The PRC National Blood Services collected 448, 928 units from 400, 955 donors between January 1 and December 31, 2017. The PRC had given out 13, 938 units of blood as of January 18, 2023.

PRC relies on the generosity of its donors and the blood-letting events that attract these donors to maintain a consistent supply of blood products.

Blood donations are crucial because they enable people to endure surgery and cancer treatments, dengue, accident injuries, and pregnancy difficulties.

You can email the PRC National Blood Services at nbs.recruitment@redcross.org.ph with questions or call the PRC Blood Call Center, which can be reached anywhere in the country by calling 143.

A humanitarian organization in the nation, PRC is dedicated to offering high-quality life-saving services that preserve human life and dignity, particularly for poor Filipinos in danger.

There are currently six main services offered by the Philippine Red Cross: blood services, disaster management services, safety services, health services, social services, Red Cross youth services, and volunteer services.
