Since the beginning of the voter registration for the October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on December 12, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental has approved 35,801 applications.

Ian Lee Ananoria, the supervisor of the provincial elections, stated on Monday that voter turnout is slowly increasing.

But according to the election officials’ reports, there is a lesser turnout now than there was during the previous registration, he claimed.

“Voter registration will soon come to an end. It will last till January 31 at 5 p.m. Please visit the Office of the Election Officer if you still have time to register “said Ananoria.

11,811 registered users were listed last week, an increase of about 3,000 from the week before.

In the meantime, satellite registration will take place in the city at Robinsons Place Bacolod from January 24 to 28 and from January 30 to 31 according to City Election Officer Kathrina Trinio-Caa.

Including those eligible for the priority lane, such as senior citizens, people with disabilities, pregnant women, and members of the indigenous people’s communities, they will accommodate up to 500 registrations, she noted.

Trinio-Caa also urged anyone who wanted to sign up not to wait until the very last minute, noting that due to low attendance at earlier satellite registrations in other malls, they were unable to reach their intended enrollment goal.

“Even though there were more registrations on the final day, the amount still fell short of the daily cut-off of 500 applicants,” she said.
