Comelec meets its goal of 1.5M voter registration applications.
With more than a week until the registration deadline, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday that it had already surpassed its goal of at least 1.5 million voter registrations.
The polling organization reported that, as of Jan. 22, 1,537,872 applications had been submitted across all registration sites in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for this October.
The Comelec had estimated that between 1.5 million and 2 million candidates will register during the period beginning on December 12, 2022 and lasting until January 31, 2023.
442,330 voters between the ages of 15 and 17; 397,323 between the ages of 18 and 30; and 86,818 between the ages of 31 and over make up the total number of newly registered voters.
However, a total of 7,555 applications have been submitted through the Register Anywhere Project (RAP) kiosks located in shopping centers, academic institutions, and administrative buildings.
The youth elections are open to registered Filipino voters aged 15 to 17, the barangay elections are open to voters aged 18 to 30, and the barangay elections are open to voters aged 31 and over.
Among the SK applicants, 4,525 requested transfers from other cities or municipalities, while 2,167 requested transfers within the same city or municipality.
325,999 barangay voter applicants sought transfer from another city or municipality, while 82,513 requested transfer within the same city or municipality.
14,092 people have applied for transfer with reactivation, 4,853 people have applied for transfer with reactivation and entry correction, and 16,718 people have applied for transfer with entry correction.
Additionally, 16,019 people requested reactivation with entry corrections, and 59,203 people wanted to revive their registration.
A total of 72,067 applications were submitted for entry correction, 93 for record inclusion in the voter book, and 35 for name reinstatement on the voter list.
There are 6,137 people who have asked to be converted from overseas to local voters.
