The Associated Press reported on Monday that the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has started an investigation into the coronavirus’s origins and has asked the Biden administration for details.

The House Oversight Committee’s subcommittee on the coronavirus pandemic reportedly asked Anthony Fauci, the former chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, for information.

Currently being looked into is the possibility that the virus escaped from a Chinese laboratory.

Republican Brad Wenstrup, who heads the virus subcommittee, said in a statement: “This investigation must begin with where and how this virus came about so that we can seek to forecast, prepare for, or prevent it from happening again.”

The COVID-19 outbreak is most likely to be caused by bats transmitting the disease to another animal, which then infected people, according to a joint assessment from the WHO and China that was released in March 2021 after an international expedition to Wuhan.

The experts were unable to determine how the virus first arrived at the Huanan seafood market in Wuhan, though.

Additionally, there were presumptions regarding its lab-based origin.
